Product I Regret Buying: Bobbi Brown Face Touch Up Stick

Hey girlies,

I'm going to start a new regular post about products I regret buying because I've realised recently that I've been reviewing products that I'm ~90% happy with and I think that's generally been the case because I've done my research more thoroughly so I know what to expect. I think however that it's equally as useful for you guys to know about some not-so-great products because I know we've all seen something on special on strawberrynet.com or just browsing Priceline and gone on to buy it only to find out it was such a mistake. So here is the first in this theme...my incredibly overpriced and useless concealer from Bobbi Brown.

Read on for more info

PRODUCT: Bobbi Brown Face Touch Up Stick in 4.25 Natural Tan

Reasons why I thought this was going to be awesome:

1. I thought Bobbi Brown was a great brand
2. I'd had no luck colour matching my skintone with concealers in the drug store so when they had such a range and a nice lady to test it out I was sucked in.
3. It matched my skintone well when the salesgirl tried it
4. I had a friend who used the product

Reasons why this product is shithouse:

1. It was RIDICULOUSLY expensive. I think I paid >$50 AUD in Myer for this tiny concealer stick.
2. It may match my skintone perfectly but it has such low coverage, you can barely see a difference over a blemish.
3. It goes on cakey at first and when blended lightly (with brush/finger/etc) it's completely gone.

Thus...it is a great skin-tone matching concealer, that DOESN'T CONCEAL.

I'm not bitter or anything. Maybe you've had a different experience but if you want my advice, stay clear, try PROPERLY before you buy, sometimes salesgirls can have plenty of tricks to make us think a product is a must-have when it's really a must-not.

Have any of you girls had similar experiences??

x Sparkle/Alina

  1. Ohh my gosh. I remember my first time buying foundation at a "proper" makeup shop. I was so excited, so proud of myself even for being a proper-makeup-buyer, that I went in there and got completely duped by the Clinique counter into buying a foundation WAY too dark for my skin. (Everything looks different under fluro lights) and went home, saw it, & was SOOOO angry/annoyed/let down. Lucky for me I have a mother who suited it & wanted it, but I know so many stories of people buying things and being duped by the ladies behind the counter.

That's why I ALWAYS now tell them that I'm going home to check in my own mirrors... and I bet they think I'm gonna buy it online (when that isn't what I'm doing), but who cares! Stuff them ;)

    1. OMG I have the exact same problem, I find MeccaCosmetica the WORST for that kind of thing, and i'm always way too nice and scared to say no half the time (because they've manipulated me into thinking it's a holy grail product!) and end up with so much regret.
I'm sneaky though and do look up items on the internet, hey we're still students right!?!

  2. I think I have an endless supply of products that would fit the "I regret buying..." box. Where would I even start? My mum and I got duped into buying a moisturiser years ago by a lady at Estee Lauder who said her son had asked for it because it made HIS 14 year old skin "look like it was glowing"??? Why did we think that could be a true story?
