For the uninitiated: circle lenses are a special type of contact lens that makes your eye look bigger by increasing the size of your iris with a printed colour ring! They're popular in asian countries like Japan and Korea.
Many people order these online, however it is unknown if they are legitimately from whatever foreign brand they say they are. A few years back, I consulted my optometrist about these lenses, and he did not approve as it is unknown what their manufacturing process is and they're not yet approved by the TGA, so the official line from optometrists (and probably most medical professionals) is that it's unknown whether they are safe. He suggested I try Johnson & Johnson 1 Day Acuvue Define circle lenses instead and ordered them in for me!
They're so much more comfortable than the Korean / Japanese lenses, although less dramatic in colour and size. I use them for a little kick in iris size for times when I need to wear them for long periods of time or my eyes are irritated when I've tried to put other lenses in. This time I put them in to exercise as I didn't want to get sweat on my precious new glasses (the saline solution of sweat erodes things over time).
Here's a before / after with these lens in the black ringed "Accent". With lenses in:

I still order and buy asian circle lenses because I just love the range of colours available and more enlargement effect, but I try to keep wear time to a minimum as I really don't know much about where they've come from. Whilst it's nice to know many people in Korea, Japan and all over the world use them with no problems, eye care is really not something you want to &%$# around with.
Peace out, time to cram for an exam.

Hey Sabrina! I think I read somewhere about Geo lenses being FDA approved now. (but we all know that this revelation is shaky at best) haha. Can't wait for your 'vivid review'! I think acuvue also has a new third pattern, with regards to their selection of circle lenses.
ReplyDeleteGood to know they're FDA approved! It's something at least heh ;) I like the authentication system on the Geo lenses so I usually buy that brand...
DeleteOh my gosh, a third design?! Where did you hear about this?
Thanks for dropping by! :)
his post is about Vivid. I also bought Natural Shine and will be writing a review of that when I get a chance. Acuvue Define are daily contacts but I know Japan has bi-weeklies available in Vivid style.
